Hillcrest Music Lessons

Hillcrest Music Lessons

Sally Piano Music offer lessons in several Southern California locations. Private instruction takes place at the student’s home or the teacher’s home studio.

We specialize in piano and violin lessons for children, but welcome aspiring musicians of all ages to join us. We also offer voice, guitar and bass guitar lessons. Guitar students can study using electric, acoustic or flamenco guitars. Want to play guitar in a rock band? One of our guitar teachers will help you prepare for your first gig.

A skilled instructor mixes music fundamentals, proper technique, and easy-to-follow practice pieces to make every lesson appealing. Once the student masters the basics of their instrument, the teacher guides them though playing a full song. Students eventually learn an entire repertoire, and may even decide to perform with a band.

Our teachers have music degrees and experience teaching children and adults. We interview applicants in person before hiring them to ensure they meet our high standards. Our instructors have performed in symphony orchestras, jazz groups and nightclubs around the world. Their knowledge of different musical genres, from classical to rock, and jazz to Latin, makes it easy for them to relate to students’ varying interests. Sally Piano Music Students receive a Certificate of Merit, and showcase their skills in recitals at Halloween, Christmas and other times of year.

If you want your child to take music lessons, but aren’t sure if you can afford it, we offer a variety of payment options and no long-term contracts.

Meet a couple of our instructors in the Hillcrest area!

Michelle R

Michelle began playing the guitar at 8 years old and has now been playing for 13 years. From elementary school to college at UCSD, she has enjoyed shouldering her guitar to campus to play for her friends and teachers: during lunchtime, in front of the class, and at talent shows. She has guided several of her friends into learning how to play guitar when they asked her to teach them.

While she was in high school, she played at the Third St. Promenade, Santa Monica during the cold winters, hoping to share her love for music to the multitude of strangers passing by. She has performed at The Loft at UCSD three times in the past two years and plans on performing at more shows.
Michelle specializes in finger-style guitar. She is familiar with most genres ie classical, rock, pop. Teaching is her most cherished passion. Her lessons are designed to inspire students and encourage them to love and appreciate the guitar as much as she does.

John R

ohn has been playing piano for 23 years and teaching piano and voice to children in the San Diego area with positive results in all of his students. In 2007 he traveled with the global education and music program Up With People where he had the opportunity to perform music throughout Asia, Europe, and the United States and for events including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Tournament of Roses Parade. John has performed in several musical theater productions as both a singer and musician. He has sang in the role of Seymour for the musical Little Shop of Horrors, and used his piano abilities to play for productions of Grease and Bye Bye Birdie. John has successfully created and maintained a youth choir for children and teens at his church, focusing on tonal quality, accurate diction and performing as a group. With a solid understanding of children, he is able to make a connection with all students that help them to understand the complexities of music. John uses relatable examples and interactive activities that exercise their creative abilities while solidifying their musical foundation. In this way, he is able to analyze the students’ abilities and tailor the lesson based on his/her ability to comprehend and create music. His goal is to explore music with others so they may develop a unique form of expression which resonates in any country while enjoying the serenity that coincides with creating music on a piano.
